Egypt to apply to host 2036 Olympic Games

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi gave the green light to apply, Minister Ashraf Sobhi added during a reception for International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach in Cairo. The statement, issued by the Egyptian cabinet, quoted Bach as saying Egypt’s sports infrastructure was capable of hosting the event. The summer Olympics will be held in Paris in 2024, followed by Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane, Australia in 2032. The process of applying for to host the 2036 Olympics has not yet begun, while there are reports of interest from countries including Germany, Mexico, Turkey, Russia, India and Qatar. Bright Outlook for Vietnam’s GDP Growth

Photo: VNA Vietnam ’s GDP growth will reach 8% this year in the base-case scenario, provided that there will be no upheavals in the market but favourable external factors for the economy during the remaining months of the year, VNA reported, citing Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong. It was one of the two GDP scenarios for 2022 announced by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) at a routine government press briefing on October 1. In the worst-case scenario, the GDP will grow at 7.5%, provided that many challenges and uncertainties are expected in the fourth quarter of this year, Phuong told reporters. The Julius Baer Generation Cup is a tournament in the Champions Chess Tour 2022 with the participation of 16 players. The prize money is US$150,000 in cash, with the champion receiving $25,000.   Liem qualified for the quarterfinals as the sixth-placed player after 15 games. He and Hans Niemann traded wins in the first two games on Friday morning. The Vietnamese chess ace, playing black, went on to draw Game 3, and a 44-move win in the fourth encounter gained him the right to face Arjun Erigaisi from India in Saturday’s semifinals. Vietnam’s Le Quang Liem ends journey at int’l chess championship after semifinal defeat

The Julius Baer Generation Cup is a tournament in the Champions Chess Tour 2022 with the participation of 16 world-class players. The prize money is US$150,000 in cash, with the champion receiving $25,000.   Liem finished sixth-placed after 15 games of the group stage to qualify for the quarterfinals, where he beat Hans Niemann of the U.S. to advance to the semifinals. However, Liem’s stunning run to form at the tourney came to an end as Erigaisi, who is nicknamed the ‘Indian iceman,’ played fantastically to knock out the Vietnamese former world blitz champion in the second semifinal. The tussle started with a draw before the 19-year-old Indian took the lead in the second. Erigaisi then missed a big chance in the third to decide the match, ending the game in a draw. The final regulation game of the match saw Liem get back in it.  The speed specialist went into full attack mode before finishing Erigaisi off in style to level the score at 2-2 and take it to tiebreaks.
