Upgrading of Vietnam-RoK Relations – New Milestone in Bilateral Ties

Photo: VGP President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Hanoi on December 7 morning, concluding a successful State visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) at the invitation of President Yoon Suk-yeol, VNA reported. This was the first visit to the RoK by Phuc in his capacity as President of Vietnam, and also the first by a Vietnamese President over the past 11 years, and the highest-level visit by Vietnamese Party and State leaders to the RoK since the East Asian country had a new President. Notably, President Phuc was the first foreign high-ranking leader to pay a State visit to the RoK since President Yoon took office in May this year. A month-long exhibition telling the story of Vietnamese resilience, creativity, and bravery in a 12-day air defense against the US troops was launched on December 5. Photo: Lai Tan/The Hanoi Times The exhibition, entitled “Hanoi, the memory of 12 days and 12 nights – The victory of Dien Bien Phu in the air”, is part of a series of activities organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the victory against the US airforce in December 1972. The campaign, widely known as “Dien Bien Phu in the Air,” was a defense operation launched by the Vietnam Air Force and ground-based air defense against US air raids by B52 bomber – the most modern aircraft of the time – on Hanoi and neighboring cities and provinces. The operation lasted 12 days and nights, from December 18 to 30, 1972, and resulted in the victory of the Vietnamese, which was attributed to the leadership of the Party and the Government

These designs are closely linked to patterns and motifs in former royal architecture. In the collection, designer Thao Giang shows pride in the country’s millennial history and culture. Giang says her Ao Dai designs in this collection are inspired by the archaeological relics of the former Hue Royal Palace and the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. The motifs of dragons, phoenixes, lotus flowers, bodhi leaves, and ceramics make Giang’s Ao Dai products more attractive. By organizing the 2022 Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival, Hanoi hopes to promote tourism and attract tourists after a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
