Hosts Vietnam rout Malaysia in SE Asia football championship

Image
A total of three yellow cards and two reds were shown by the referee throughout the encounter at My Dinh National Stadium in the Vietnamese capital. The game was quite even in the first 15 minutes before Vietnam’s harmonious crosses on the left flank disconcerted the Malaysians. In the 28th minute, from captain Do Hung Dung’s corner kick, Nguyen Tien Linh scored the opening goal with a header that hit the ground and bounced into the top corner of the Malaysian goal.  But five minutes later, the hosts were down to 10 men after Nguyen Van Toan received his second yellow card. Despite a numerical disadvantage on the pitch, Vietnam still had some dangerous attacks and put pressure on the opponents after the break. One of those efforts saw Malaysia’s Azam Azmi foul Doan Van Hau in the 60th minute. The referee consulted his assistant before giving Azmi a straight red card and awarding a penalty to Vietnam.
