Vietnam reach ASEAN football final after beating Indonesia

in the 2022 AFF Championship final after claiming a 2-0 win over Indonesia in their semifinal second leg in Hanoi on Monday evening. This is the fourth time that Vietnam have qualified for the AFF Championship final. Thanks to Nguyen Tien Linh’s double, Vietnam defeated Indonesia 2-0 after two legs as both teams had drawn 0-0 in Central Jakarta last Friday. The Vietnamese striker put his team ahead quite early with a volley in the third minute before earning his second to double the lead with a header in the 48th minute. Indonesia’s most noticeable remarks were their faults against the hosts that resulted in two yellow cards. The players of Shin Tae Young, who had taken to Instagram to personally criticize three rough tackles by Vietnam’s left-back Doan Van Hau on Sunday, tried to hit back but their finishes either lacked accuracy or failed to beat Vietnamese goalkeeper Dang Van Lam. Vietnam wrapped up a 2-0 victory on aggregate to set up the finale against the winners...

Giant legs of Vietnam’s ‘dragon chicken’ a Lunar New Year delicacy

The lumpy legs of the Dong Tao chicken — named after the commune where it is bred in northern Vietnam — are considered a delicacy, and are particularly popular among the wealthy during the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, known as Tet. Hien’s prized four-kilogramme bird, whose enormous legs make up around a fifth of its body weight, was sold for about $150 — but especially large pedigree chickens have been valued at more than 10 times that. Some are even entered into beauty contests. The key to the bird’s taste is its diet of corn and rice and the freedom it has to roam, Hien told AFP. Although the laying hens are kept in battery cages, which have been banned in some countries across the world, the chickens bred for meat are let loose in a small garden. “The more the chicken walks, the stronger and bigger their muscles are,” said Hien, who has been breeding chickens for more than 15 years. The meat of the Dong Tao chicken — which can reach up to 10 kg — is prized for its tough and chew...

Belgian television makes reportage on Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration

The reportage said that about 400 Vietnamese people attended the traditional Tet festival in Woluwe Saint-Pierre district where not only Vietnamese people but also Belgians said to each other “Chuc mung Nam moi” (Happy New Year). Visitors to the festival had a chance to enjoy Vietnamese traditional foods and fruits, particularly grapefruit – an indispensable fruit during Tet celebrations. The channel’s reporter introduced “banh mi” (Vietnamese bread) – a specialty whose name is included in the Oxford Dictionary. The festival was decorated with parallel sentences or calligraphy brought from Vietnam. According to the reportage, hanging calligraphy is an indispensable decoration in the houses of Vietnamese people during Tet. To write calligraphy, one must learn for many years, and calligraphers look like performing martial arts when writing. Besides, the Tet festival included a peformance by an art troupe from Ho Chi Minh City. The reportage emphasised that about 5,000 Vietnames...

Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or “ascending dragon,” but it hasn’t forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest. Lakes, parks, shady boulevards, and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi, according to TripAdvisor.
