Politburo member Vo Van Thuong sworn in as State President.Photo: Nhandan Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee Vo Van Thuong pledged to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity after he was elected at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly in Hanoi on March 2 with 97% of votes in favour, according to the VOV. Thuong, 53, vowed to be loyal to the Vietnamese Fatherland and people, as well as the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. “I will do his utmost to successfully fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people,” said the newly elected State President at the swearing-in ceremony.
