US Arts Envoy Concludes Tour in Vietnam

“Drying Rice Paper” is a photo was taken by Nguyen Phuoc Hoai. Located on the banks of the Con river, An Thai is a traditional trade village of dry vermicelli and rice paper and is over 100 years old. Rice is the main ingredient used in producing rice paper which is then put on a bamboo griddle and is then brought out to dry in the sun. “Drying sedge mat” was taken by Nguyen Linh Vinh Quoc in Phu Tan craft village of Tuy An district in the southcentral coastal province of Phu Yen. Sedge mats are made from natural materials, enabling people to sleep comfortably in the hot weather. “Going through the cabbage garden” was captured by Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Phuc Thanh in Lam Dien commune of Chuong My district. The busy street appears quite different compared to the last two years when services were heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mid-Autumn decorations, especially traditional and modern toys for children, are put on display. Star-shaped lanterns prove to be the most popular item, costing between VND10,000 and VND100,000 each. Some shops sell paper and frames for customers who wish to create their own hand-made lanterns. The prices of traditional toys range from VND10,000 to VND200,000 each, depending on their size and type. A mini unicorn mascot is valued at VND230,000, although the new product has yet to attract customers this year. The price of beautiful hair bands hovers at around VND15,000 to VND30,000 each. Some consumers choose to purchase a large number of items as they prepare gifts for their children ahead of the Mid-Autumn festival. Photographer Tim Page dies at 78

His death was confirmed by his longtime partner, Marianne Harris, according to  The New York Times. Page was one of the most vivid personalities among a corps of Vietnam photographers whose images helped shape the course of the war. Timothy John Page was born in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in the UK on May 25, 1944.  He was the son of a British sailor who was killed in World War II. He was adopted and never knew his birth mother. At 17, he left England in search of adventure, leaving behind a note that read: “Dear Parents, am leaving home for Europe or perhaps Navy and hence the world. Do not know how long I shall go for.” He went well beyond Europe, travel ing to the Middle East, India, and Nepal, before ending his journey in Laos at the beginning of the Indochina war. He found freelance work with United Press International and won a job thanks to photographs he had taken of an attempted coup in Laos in 1965. He spent most of the next five years covering the war in Vietnam ,
