Hanoi's outdoor workers make a living on freezing cold nights
A mother and child sell food in Hai Ba Trung district at night. The heavy burden of earning a living falls on the poor workers’ shoulders every night. The colder it is, the harder their tasks are. A group of labourers work hard at night as they try to finish on schedule ahead of the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet. Their shift starts at midnight and lasts until 4 a.m. each day. A worker is busy at night on Hang Khay street in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. Poorer street sellers must make money whenever they can, forcing them to stay out in the freezing weather so that they can make ends meet. A candy floss seller waits for customers amid dingy conditions. Many street vendors are forced to close up early to go back home as business is too quiet due to the cold.
