Porcelain paintings in Da Nang’s pagoda set Vietnamese record

The 16 paintings have an impressive total area of 192m2. They are attached to the walls of four towers within the pagoda, including Phuoc Hue, Thai Hoa, Thanh Tuu, and Vien Man towers. Each painting is unique due to having its own meaning and features many of the nation’s famous landscapes. The paintings have been carefully assembled using small pieces of porcelain by artisans from Hanoi’s Bat Trang ancient pottery village for two years. Phuoc Hue tower features porcelain paintings detailing sightseeing spots in Da Nang, such as the Han river and Ngu Hanh Son (Marble) mountains. HCM City eyes UNESCO recognition as World Book Capital

World Book Capital is an initiative by the UN body to recognise cities around the world for promoting books and fostering reading, Lam Dinh Thang, director of the city Department of Information and Communications, said. HCM City hopes to achieve that title by 2025, he said. For that, it needs to foster reading, especially in rural and other underprivileged areas, and do surveys on reading habits to make policies supporting publishers, he said. HCM City Book Street in District 1 is popular among book readers, and it received more than three million visitors, held 400 book-themed events and sold over 660,000 books last year.
