Five Moc villages’ festival excites crowds in Hanoi
The festival was originally held from the 10th to the 12th day of the second lunar month in order to pay tribute to the villages’ tutelary gods. This year the occasion will run from March 1 to March 3. Security officials are on hand to ensure traffic safety along Nguyen Trai road. The festival attracts both adults and children who come to enjoy the atmosphere. Since 1992, the festival has been restored and is held on a rotary basis, with a major festival taking place every five years. Recent times has seen the event postponed for three years consecutively due to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic. A procession of palanquin passes five villages. This year five palanquins gather in Quan Nhan village. In 2021 the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially recognised the festival of the five Moc villages as part of the country’s national intangible cultural heritage, thereby encouraging locals to continue
