Modern Vietnamese military weapons exhibited at defence expo

Anti-radiation and anti-chemical poison mobile vehicles can be used as kitchens. A Scud-B ballistic missile which stands at 11.25 metres in length, 0.88 metres in width, 5.9 tonnes in launch weight, and has a range of 300km, is put on display. Upon addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Doan Van Viet noted that in order to improve the competitiveness and position of Vietnamese tourism in the region, localities and businesses  need to cooperate with each other. It is essential to build new tourism products, exchange visitors between localities and destinations, as well as improving the tourism workforce, he emphasizes. Exhibition recalls 12-day-and-night memories of Dien Bien Phu in the air

Visitors have the chance to see photos and items which reflect the losses and sacrifices suffered by Vietnamese soldiers and civilians during the course of the battle to resist the US’ carpet bombing airstrikes. The “fiery day” section recalls the fighting spirit shown by both the Northern army and people in the last days of December, 1972, when the US imperialists sent B52 bombers to attack Hanoi. Meanwhile, the “behind the prison walls” section recalls the images of imprisoned American pilots at Hoa Lo Prison and their feelings as they look back on the war, life, and the Vietnamese people. Pictured is a blood pressure monitor and stethoscope used by Do Doan Dai, former director of Bach Mai Hospital, to examine the victims after the bombings.
