IUU Fishing Prevention and Control for Sake of People and Vietnam’s Image

Photo: VGP Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for concerted efforts to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing while chairing a teleconference with 28 coastal provinces and cities on December 1, VNA reported Thursday. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported that IUU fishing has been reeled in since the European Commission issued a “yellow card” warning five years ago. However, problems and shortcomings remain, regarding which an EC delegation gave recommendations on during their third inspection recently, MARD noted, adding that the EC also highly valued Vietnam’s strong political resolve, especially the drastic directions delivered by the Government and the PM. Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Regional Workshop Launched in Nha Trang

The 2022 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Regional Workshop: Marine Warriors kicks off in the coastal city of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province on December 2. US Ambassador to ASEAN Yohannes Abraham, Standing Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa People’s Committee Le Huu Hoang joined the opening ceremony to welcome 100 young Southeast Asian leaders from 10 ASEAN member countries and Timor-Leste. This year’s YSEALI Regional Workshop brings together youth from all ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste between the ages of 18 and 25 to Nha Trang from December 1-6. The participants were selected among 1,300 applicants for their dedication to the community, volunteerism, and strong leadership skills. 15 youth from across Vietnam participated in the workshop. Hanoians queue for mooncakes as Mid-Autumn Festival approaches

Local people line up along Thuy Khe street from early in the morning to the evening as they wait to purchase their mooncakes. Typically bakers sell two types of mooncake, including banh nuong, known as brown baked cakes, and banh deo, also known as snow skin sticky cakes. The price of mooncakes ranges from VND50,000 to VND80,000 each. According to the shop owner, the peak season for mooncakes is typically from mid-July until the end of August. Workers face busy days as the Mid-Autumn Festival comes near. Staff at the bakery are normally rushed off their feet selling mooncakes at this time of year due to the large number of customers.
