Hanoi rose village ready for first flower festival

Themed ‘Me Linh with Flowers’ Brilliance,’ the Me Linh Flower Festival is poised to take place as the first of its kind in Me Linh District, some 27 kilometers from Hanoi’s downtown area, from December 9 to 11. Me Linh District now has 1,294 hectares of flower fields, including 1,152 hectares of roses. Me Linh flower village is famous for growing various breeds of flowers, which started more than 20 years ago, and is offering fresh flowers for Hanoi and other northern localities. In preparation for the upcoming flower festival, growers placed more than 1,000 pots of roses, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers along the entrance to the temple worshiping the two Trung sisters (14 AD – 43 AD), who are considered the first heroines of Vietnamese people. Over 100 cats compete at Hanoi beauty pageant

This was the first event to bring together the most beautiful cats of various sizes and breeds raised in Vietnam, with one of them valued at nearly VND400 million (US$16,129), according to the organizer. The prizes of the contest totaled over VND100 million ($4,032). Learning Vietnamese to Preserve National Traditions

According to the Khmer- Vietnam Association and the representative agencies of Vietnam in Cambodia, there are currently about 30 schools and classes in Phnom Penh and 14 provinces across Cambodia that teach in two languages, Khmer and Vietnamese , with nearly 1,400 students enrolled.
