Mekong Delta people flock to mango fest in Vietnam’s Dong Thap

They crowded Van Mieu Park in Cao Lanh, where the festival will welcome visitors through Monday, offering an interesting sightseeing choice for the ongoing five-day holiday break celebrating Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Reunification Day (April 30), and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

The administration of Dong Thap has organized 18 activities before, during, and after the event, including a story-writing contest, a children’s drawing competition, a photography contest, an exhibition showcasing mango products and local specialties from Dong Thap, and familiarization trips to mango farming areas.

The festival, which is taking place right at the time of the main mango harvest, also includes two seminars featuring discussions on measures to enhance the value and promote the sustainable growth of the province’s mango farming and tourism sectors.

Speaking at Friday’s ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan attached great importance of cooperation among farmers, applications of technology, updates on market news, and hygienic production to the growth of the mango business in Dong Thap.

Mango is among the six key agricultural staples produced in Dong Thap, with its total farming area exceeding 14,000 hectares.

About 250 farming regions in the province got licenses to ship the fruit to China.
