The municipal Department of Tourism said the total figure represented a 4.7-fold rise year-on-year. The number of foreign tourists was up 49 times and domestic visitors, up 3.5 times.

The city raked in VND4.37 trillion ($184.5 million) from the tourism sector, up 1.7 times from the same period last year, and up 21% as compared with the 2019 figure.

Despite positive recovery signs, the local tourism sector has been still facing major challenges in terms of finance, human resources, and infrastructure.

Last year, Da Nang lured 3.69 million visitors, of whom 483,000 were foreigners, and earned nearly VND8.9 trillion VND from the industry.

The 2023 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF 2023) is scheduled to take place from June 3-7 after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the municipal People’s Committee and Sun Group, the festival organizers.

This year’s festival, the 11th edition so far, will take the theme of “World without Distance” to highlight the strong recovery of world tourism after the pandemic.

The festival is the core of the “WOW Da Nang” program, part of the tourism promotion campaign “WOW Vietnam” launched nationwide by Sun Group.

Eight teams from the UK, Italy, Poland, France, Australia, Canada, Finland, and host Vietnam are expected to join the festival. A stage will be set up along the Han River. Teams from Vietnam and Finland will kickstart the festival on June 3.

The festival will also feature various events to entertain visitors on this occasion.

In 2019, DIFF with an investment capital of nearly VND150 billion gave a boom to the central city as it attracted nearly 1 million visitors within the month when the festival took place.

The municipal Tourism Department has also issued a plan to launch a tourism stimulus program for this year.

Under the theme “Enjoy Da Nang Now,” the program will treat holidaymakers with sea and resort tourism services, entertainment, food tasting, and shopping experiences.

The city will offer about 10,000 free vouchers at local destinations, as well as launch the “Happy Hour” program to offer discounts and promotions at eateries, spa and massage parlors, and shopping outlets.
