‘A night of Chopin’ concert sold out in Ho Chi Minh City

The concert was part of a series of two performances of immortal works by Polish composer Frédéric Chopin organized in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday and Sunday evening.

The pieces were performed by Polish conductor Wojciech Czepiel, Polish leading pianist Joanna Marcinkwska, and Nguyen Viet Trung, a finalist of the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition, who is living in Poland.

The artists and HSBO orchestra delivered an uplifting show of Chopin’s two most ‘precious jewels,’ namely Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor and Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor.

“I am so happy to be able to witness the stunning gigs of the excellent artists from Poland,” said Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Truc, a third-year piano major student.

Tickets to the concert sold out as soon as they were released, Truc continued, adding that many of her friends felt bad as they were unable to buy any ticket.

Pham Nguyen Anh Vu, lecturer at the piano department of the Conservatory of Ho Chi Minh City, said he had never seen anyone reach such a level as Joanna Marcinkwska.

Vu added that he was really happy to see that more and more classical music shows have been sold out in Ho Chi Minh City recently.

“This is such a precious experience, and the performances by the artists from Poland were phenomenal,” said Chou Kevin, a Taiwanese living in Ho Chi Minh City. “My daughter studies piano and her mother is a piano teacher, so the whole family is really happy to enjoy the special Chopin night.”

“When I heard that the concert was sold out, I was a little nervous but mostly excited,” Nguyen Viet Trung said after finishing his impressive performance.

“This is a great motivation for me to perform well on stage.”

This is the second time Trung has returned to perform in Ho Chi Minh City after seven years.
