Vietnam wins first int’l bowling gold medal

Duc outplayed eight bowlers from Singapore, five from host Thailand, and two from Hong Kong in the Masters round of the championship.

The young Vietnamese representative scored a total of 1,923 points after eight games, with an average of 240.38 points, 77 points more than Thailand’s Putana to win the gold medal – which is the first-of-its-kind international achievement for Vietnamese bowling.

Duc is considered an outstanding young talent of Vietnamese bowling, having participated in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi in May.

He is currently a student at Hong Bang University in Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to Duc, two young Vietnamese athletes, Tran Hoang Khoi and Nguyen Le Minh Tri, also won two silver medals in the events for under-13 and under-18 competitors, respectively.

As an encouragement gift for the three great achievements, Pham Quang Chanh, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Bowling Federation, who was also present in Thailand, rewarded each athlete 1,000 baht (US$27.3).

The 2022 Thailand International Open is an annual tournament that brings together many strong bowling teams in the Asian region.
