Vietnamese Circus Artists Perform in Kazakhstan’s Capital

After nearly a week of performing, the International Circus Festival named “Echos of Asia 2022” ended on August 14 in Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan. Two Vietnamese artists were honored with the bronze medal for their spirited performances.

This year, Phuong Nam Art Theater, a unit of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, sent two young artists Trinh Van Thang and Nguyen Thi Phuong Dong, along with the artistic director, elite circus artist Luu Thi Bich Lien. As participants in an interntional contest, the performers represented Vietnam.

The Echo of Asia, an annual circus festival returned to Kazakhstan after a two-year suspension caused by Covid-19 on August 10-14.

The festival was first organized in 2007 and has proved itself as one of the most prestigious international festivals.

“The purpose of the event is to show the best achievements of art, especially circus art among the broader population, while developing international relations and provide artists with the opportunity to exchange their experience,” said circus trainer and director Aigerim Tlegenova.

Best artists from 13 countries including Belarus, France, Hungary, Vietnam, Israel, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, have gathered to demonstrate their talents during two programs of the festival.

Aerial gymnasts from France and Vietnam, a famous Kazakh equestrian and acrobatic group, virtuosic jugglers, acrobats, tightrope walkers, clowns, and famous Russian air equilibrist Oleg Spigin were among the participants.

The festival consisted of two programs with the participation of original aerialists, virtuoso jugglers, acrobats, equilibrists and clowns. In total, the number of participants reached 86.

The jury evaluated participants by their level of acting as well as their choreographic and directing work. Among them are renowned figures of culture and world circus art – Minister of Culture of Hungary PĂ©ter Fekete, President of the International Circus Festival of Italy Fabio Montico, Director of the State Circus of Belarus Vladimir Shaban, Director of the Uzbek State Circus Rustam Majidov, Director of the Kyrgyz State Circus Farkhad Bekmanbetov and others.

Erik Zholzhaksynov, Director General of Nur-Sultan city circus appreciated the talent and performance of the two Vietnam’s artists and hopes that the Vietnamese Embassy in Kazakhstan and Vietnam’s circus troupes will continue to send artists to participate in the festival, as well as circus art exchanges in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Shows such as tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, equestrian acrobatics, and clown performances are loved by audiences.

The Vietnamese circus artists are loved by the Kazakh audience. Many families and children came to take pictures with Phuong Dong and Trinh Thang.

After five days of performances, the festival was deemed a great success. The performances were performed skillfully, creatively as well as imbued with the cultural identity of each ethnic group and each region. Through their expert performances, the artists love and passion for Vietnam was shared with the international audience.

Outstanding artist Luu Thi Bich Lien, head of the delegation, shared her desire to create favorable conditions for Phuong Nam Art Theater to continue sending delegations to Kazakhstan to perform in the near future, helping artists to exchange, learn from experiences on creative methods to develop circus art, as well as through performance activities, contribute to strengthening solidarity, friendly cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Kazakhstan.
